Dubai is one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates and sits on the coast of the Persian Gulf. It is a major hub for travel, trade and higher education in the region, which made it a practical meeting point for an international research community drawn from Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
The city is served by Dubai International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the world, with direct connections to most major cities. Visitors from many countries can obtain a visa on arrival, while other nationalities apply in advance through the usual channels.
The climate in February is mild and pleasant, which suits a programme of technical sessions and networking across two days.

Dubai International Airport connects the city to destinations worldwide. Taxis, metro lines and ride services link the airport to the city centre and hotel districts.
Where to stay
Dubai offers a wide range of accommodation, from business hotels near the commercial districts to beach resorts along the coast. Booking early is advised for a February visit.
Presenting online
Registered authors who could not travel were able to present their work through the conference online platform, so no accepted paper was lost to travel restrictions.
